Groundforce assiste Iberia no Regresso ao Porto

Iberia, the Spanish airline part of the IAG Group, started the operation between its Madrid hub and Oporto, a route previously served by its franchisee Air Nostrum and for which it increases its capacity by 28%.

The arrival of Iberia to Oporto on March 25 was marked with the traditional baptism by water cannons and a commemorative cake shared by the crew of flight IB3093 to Madrid, the commercial delegate of the company in Portugal, Manuela Barber and Groundforce Portugal, responsible for the handling services.

The start of Iberia's own operations at Porto Airport was announced in early November by the Spanish, European, Middle East, Africa and Asia Commercial Director of the Spanish company Célia Muñoz, who pointed out that the company will increase its capacity by 28% to 332,277 places.

Iberia, then announced Célia Muñoz, will now have 50 flights per week between Madrid and Oporto in Airbus A319 equipment, with 141 seats. Air Nostrum previously operated with CRJ with only 100 available seats.

Data from AENA, responsible for managing Spanish airports, showed that in the first two months of this year, Madrid Airport had 99,700 passengers on flights to or from Oporto, with a 17.6% increase, therefore, higher than the total traffic to or from Portugal, whose growth was 13.8%.

Last year, the total passengers on flights between Madrid and Oporto grew by 15.3%, reaching a total of 615.3 thousand passengers, which represents 29.5% of all passengers at Madrid Airport on flights from or to Portuguese airports in 2017.
